more harm than good. kyla campbell is in our washington, d.c. newsroom with new reports that question the safety of these labs. kyla. >> reporter: a federal watchdog group is expected to release more information today. the government accountability office says it called for tougher safety standards but the usa today reports the standards have yet to be developed. the u.s. is at an increased risk for -- a lot of the risk has to do with security. it's been a big concern since the 2001 anthrax letter attacks. the uada and centers for disease control share responsibility when it comes to inspecting these labs. the usda says it will not adopt many of the recommendations suggested by the federal watchdog group. i'll explain their reasons why when i see you next. live in washington kyla campbell ktvu channel 2 news. >>> lawmakers may be close to passing a new online sales tax. the senate approved a nonbinding amendment that would allow states to collect sales tax from online retailers that are grossing more than $1 million. the vote mostly
labs around the country are not secure and the american people are at risk ktvu kyla campbell is in our washington, d.c. newsroom. kyla. >> reporter: the government accountability office released this report just minutes ago saying some of the nation's 350 bioterrorism labs which includes labs in california are not secure. the government accountability office found two main failures that says anthrax and other tools have been transferred to unauthorized facilities and say workers at multiple labs have expired security risk assessment ifsen the department of agricultural and centers for disease control are in charge of inspecting these labs. the usda has shot down many of the recommendations from the government accountability office. it says it over exaggerated risks at the labs and the cdc says it has redundant safety and security at these labs. i'll continue digging through this report again released minutes ago to see if it tinkles out any of these bioterrorism labs in california. >>> time now 6:18. lawmakers may be closer to pass a new o
are dead after an apparent murder- suicide. as kyla campbell reports from our washington, d.c. newsroom the base commander says the gunman killed a pan and woman. >> reporter: the shooters first victim was found around 7:30 pacific last night. authorities then found the shooter and a woman he killed in the same building. right now authorities are not releasing a possible motive or the names of those killed. the base commander tells us all three worked at the officer cadet school. all other marines on base and their family members have been accounted for. he says they have chaplains providing counseling for people who work and live at quantico. >> we're taking care of the well being of the marines and the families aboard quantico who have been effected by this loss and tragedy. >> reporter: he talk the about what a rough week it has been for marines. on monday seven marines were killed in an explosion in nevada. we'll have more on this latest tragedy when see you. >>> 6:17. a stopgap spending bill to keep the government running is heading to president

. >> i'm tori campbell. it is thursday march 21st . an elderly woman is in the hospital after she and her husband were run over by a truck. tara is live where the crash happened. >> reporter: good morning. that woman is in critical condition fighting for her life. getting an idea how busy this intersection can be. this is where it happened in one of these four crosswalks right here. it's very busy. muni comes through here . it looked like this last night although obviously darker and a lot more fog. it was pretty dense and authorities say that is what contributed toward the accident. happened off west portal avenue at 9:40 last night. a pick-up truck hit an elderly couple. the man was okay, his wife was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. in the fog they want to remind folks to drive slowly. but despite the fog, people say drivers simply need to slow down.
fire last night killing two other marines and himself. kyla camp sell belle is in -- campbell is in our washington, d.c. area. >> reporter: he killed a man and woman before taking his own life. the first 911 call came in around 7:30 pacific last night. authorities say an active duty marine shot and killed two others before he shot himself. all three marines were permanent personnel assigned to officer candidate school. since the murder-suicide all the other marines on base and family members have been accounted for. the commander choked up at times during the press conference last hour. he talked about his priority to take care of the marines and families on the quantico base who are dealing with this tragedy. >> i also ask for the support of our neighbors, the community, and their thoughts and prayers as well. for our marines who have lost their comrades in arms. thank you. >> reporter: he says he doesn't expect to release the names of the three marines killed for at least another 24 hours or at least until the primary next of kin is notif
